BACKSTORY

MAIN MODERN VERSE
As a child, Su Minshan lived with his mother. They were very poor, and she worked two jobs to afford the hovel they called a home. He discovered his love of music while in primary school, where a teacher frequently spent afternoons teaching him until his mother could pick him up.
When he attended Gusu Lan University, he was a bright student, one who applied himself eagerly and diligently to his studies. He struggles with understanding how people interact socially, having been raised a very lonely child with few friends. As such, he's very eager to please, and he will do whatever he thinks will make someone proud of him, even if that means unconsciously trying to compensate for what he lacks by copying what other people do.
It hasn't earned him a ton of friends in the past.
When Su Minshan graduated from Gusu Lan, he began to perform, mostly small concerts and anywhere that would take him. It was incredibly difficult for a young 22 year old, and he grew incredibly jealous when some of his classmates had better opportunities due to the circumstances of their birth.
He took a job with another university, in an effort to distance himself from the bitterness of watching his classmates succeed where he failed, but after a few years, he was let go after a round of staff cuts to minimize expenses. As such, he was forced to seek out employment at Gusu Lan University to make ends meet in a field he enjoys.
In his effort to enjoy life more despite his circumstances, he spends much of his free time teaching music to underprivileged young teens, hoping they can go farther than he was ever able to, if they just have a little support. His teens he helps all like him very much, and trust him. He's great with children and teenagers!CANON VERSE
